Skin Prep for Flawless Makeup

Skin Prep for Flawless Makeup

By Carissa St. Rose

As a Makeup Artist and Licensed Esthetician, I spend a lot of time speaking to clients (and friends) about the importance of proper skin care for a flawless makeup application. This encompasses regular professional treatments and a self-care regimen to enhance and maintain treatment results. You’ll also want to create a healthy habit of removing your makeup thoroughly at night to prevent breakouts and premature aging.

While I can’t provide treatment recommendations without a thorough skin analysis, I can offer suggestions on self-care products easily here. Start with the essentials to develop a morning and evening skincare routine. By “essentials” I’m referring to a good Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer, and SPF. While browsing our website, you’ll notice we’ve paired products to suit each skin type/concern as to not overwhelm you while making your selections.

After establishing the perfect cleansing and skin-prepping regimen, you’ll want to “prime” your face to create a healthy barrier between your skin and makeup products. One of my makeup kit essentials is our Silky Base. It is a fantastic primer that not only creates a smooth layer on the surface of your skin, it infuses ingredients (Resveratrol and Olive Oil) to hydrate and protect the skin from free radicals (AKA, youth stealers, haha).

Another Dermaesthetics product that primes and perfects the skin for makeup application is our Caviar Eye Repair Gel (also a makeup kit essential). In addition to smoothing out the sensitive eye area, it evens out the skin tone while infusing vitamins and antioxidants (Caviar Extract, Vitamin C, and E) to prevent premature aging.

An additional makeup kit essential is our EGF Blemish Balm. Not only does it conceal discoloration, it contains Epidermal Growth Factor that regenerate skin cells to speed up the healing process of that unsightly blemish.

After you’ve perfectly applied your makeup and shined all day, you’ll want to ensure proper cleansing. This is where the Dermaesthetics Green Apple Premium Cleansing Oil comes into play. Its unique formulation easily removes makeup, sunscreen, and additional pollutants trapped on the skin. It’s safe to use around the eyes and lips, and you can follow it up with your favorite Dermaesthetics daily cleanser.

I’m certain the products discussed here will provide you with the essentials to a healthy self-care regimen, and assist you with saving that pretty face from a makeup disaster. We are highly focused on education here at Dermaesthetics, so if you have additional questions on products, I encourage you to send us a message. You can also seek guidance from your esthetician during your next facial treatment. Remember, great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment!
