Brighten Up
I love my dark spots and an uneven skin tone – said no one, ever! If you’ve experienced sunburn, a gnarly blemish, a hair removal session, or a spike in hormone levels (birth control/pregnancy/menopause), you may be a victim of those dreaded dark patches. In Aesthetics, it’s referred to as “hyperpigmentation”. To simplify a complex condition, it’s an ailment that causes your skin to produce excess melanin (brown pigment), which is deposited on the surface to create unevenness in skin tone. There are a number of ways to tackle this issue at home and through guidance of a professional DBH Aesthetician, so we’ll explore some options here.
Depending on the cause/severity of your hyperpigmentation, you should plan on a commitment of at least 3 professional treatments + a self-care regimen to achieve optimal treatment results. Administering products as prescribed will not only enhance professional treatments, they will prevent future damage, too. You must also keep in mind that medical-grade products are formulated and tested to effectively treat specific skin concerns, so it’s worth investing in that self-care regimen vs opting for a drugstore brand.
I’ve suffered from Melasma (hormonal hyperpigmentation) for years, and have not found a more effective self-care regimen than the one listed below. With regular professional DBH treatments and these amazing products, the appearance of my hyperpigmentation has reduced by approximately 70%!
My first layer of defense is our C-Lester Topical Vitamin C20 Serum is a unique Dermaesthetics PowerBlend of natural and potent Vitamin C Serum at 20% strength and Palmaria Palmata Extract, an effective seaweed derived anti-oxidant. Not only does this serum shield you from sun damage, it evens out skin tone, increases firmness, and suppresses skin discoloration. Your skin will glow after using this amazing serum!
The next brightening and lightening product I add in is the Colorlite Plus Gel (also available in a cream). With Arbutin Dermaesthetics’ exclusive Whitening Plus PowerBlend Formula as its main ingredients, Colorlite Plus Gel is formulated to aid in preventing excess melanin production. This truly helps even out the skin tone for an overall brighter appearance.
No the real magic happens when our White Cotton cream tops off the self-care regimen. It’s formulated to control excess melanin production to prevent brown spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation. Licorice Root and Arbutin deliver a more even skin tone and brighter complexion, while Panthenol provides hydration for soft, healthy skin.
Last, but certainly not least, I never leave the house without a layer of sun protection. Dermaesthetics’ EGF UV Shield provides SPF 50 along with Epidermal Growth Factors to aid in the skins cellular regeneration. Don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours when you’re out in the sun for appropriate protection from those harmful UV rays.
Utilizing a Dermaesthetics Essential Skin Care System is the ideal start to this pigment regimen, so don’t forget to talk to your DBH Aesthetician about a basic cleansing system to suit your skin type. Caring for your skin is truly an investment, so make that commitment to high-quality self-care products if you truly desire results and to brighten up that beautiful face. Remember, great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment!
Xoxo,
Carissa
