Spring Cleaning – Face Edition
By Carissa St. Rose
What better way to embrace the season change than with a little spring cleaning of that pretty face?! It is not uncommon for your skin to need a pick-me-up as the seasons shift, and your face may be sending SOS signals in the form of a flaky and dull complexion. If this is indeed the case for you, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for professional exfoliation and to bump up your hydration efforts.
Lack of moisture in the air and colder temperatures in the winter tend to suck the life out of your skin, so I’ll share a few tips and tricks on how to improve hydration levels through skincare to get that glow back.
Tip #1 – Don’t over-exfoliate
It’s a natural reaction to reach for your exfoliating scrub or cleanser to combat flaky skin, but that’s a big no-no during and immediately post winter. Over-exfoliation can exacerbate your skin concern as it further strips your skin of necessary nutrients and moisture content.
Switch to a mild and hydrating cleaner to prevent further drying out your skin. Below is the DBH Hydrating cleanser, which is a fantastic product to promote hydration and soothe the skin.
Hydrating | Soothing | Cleansing
- Key ingredients: Allantoin, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Glycerin
Powerblended creamy Hydrating Cleanser transforms into a safe, gentle foam that cleanses deeply without drying. Allantoin soothes and softens dry skin, working together with Panthenol to hydrate and cleanse the skin thoroughly without irritation. Part of DBH Skin Essentials DRY kit, it is suitable for normal to dry, dry, sensitized and mature skin types.
Tip #2 – Become comfortable with Serums
Serums are truly skin-savers! They are packed full of highly concentrated nourishing ingredients and formulated to penetrate deeply into the skin. They are lightweight and can be extremely hydrating, and topping them off with your favorite moisturizer will lock in their nutrients.
When seeking a hydrating serum, take notice of these ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B, Vitamin E, and Panthenol. Below are a couple of my DBH faves for boosting hydration in the skin.

Tip #3 - Add a hydrating masque to your regimen
The elements and your lifestyle can wreak havoc on the skin. Adding a masque to your regimen twice a week can replenish lost nutrients and moisture content.
Before applying your masque, layer your favorite serums on the skin for additional hydration/ingredient penetration. My go-to masque to rejuvenate the skin is the DBH Cellular Hydration Masque.
Cellular Hydration Masque
(for professional only)
Hydrating | Calming | Nourishing
Key ingredients: Zinc oxide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Kaolin, Bentonite, Allantoin, Aloe Vera Gel, Safflower Oil, Vitamin A
A creamy, invigorating mask, the Cellular Hydration Mask is a unique combination of ingredients made to hydrate the skin while clearing and relaxing. It is a nourishing mask that replenishes much needed moisture to dry skin without unwanted oiliness. In addition, the mask aids in restoring suppleness and reduces the appearance of fine & dry lines. Bentonite and Kaolin clays plus Zinc Oxide work together to absorb unwanted oils. Soothing botanical extracts of Aloe Vera Gel, Safflower Oil and Allantoin reduce inflammation and redness, while antioxidants from vitamins and nutrients help to restore and replenish the skin leaving a cool and well-rested sensation. Excellent for the delicate eye area!
I hope these few tips and tricks provide some guidance on how to get your skin ready for the spring season. Maintaining a beautiful complexion takes more than a healthy self-care regimen, so schedule a professional DBH treatment to ensure your skin is absorbing nutrients in your skincare products properly. Remember, great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment!
