I’ve been in the beauty industry long enough to understand few can be trusted to reapply sunblock every two hours. The intention is typically there, yet the euphoria of basking in the sun creates the perfect distraction from logic. The result of this overexposure and improper sun protection is red, sensitive, and peeling/dry skin – AKA, sunburn.

Sunburns cause damage to the DNA of your skin cells which can lead to skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in America. Sun damage is irreversible and can also reappear in the form of dark spots and wrinkles. Yep, exposure to UV rays causes cancer and premature aging – as if maintaining our youthful beauty and health isn’t difficult enough!

Peeling of the skin post-sunburn is a way for the body to rid itself of those unhealthy and damaged cells, so if you’ve ever experienced a sunshine hangover, you know soothing and hydrating the skin are essential to a speedy recovery. You should increase your water intake significantly and utilize products to aid the healing process. This won’t reverse internal damage, but will alleviate external pain associated with sunburns.

Some of my DBH must-haves for soothing the “accidental” sunburn are discussed below.

DNA Matrix Serum

Ergothioneine and Sodium Chondroitin fight free radicals and MMP’s that breakdown the matrix of Collagen and Elastin while insuring optimal cellular function. Hyaluronic Acid retains the skin’s natural hydration levels as Lecithin smoothes, conditions, and delivers actives deep into the skin.

Final Thoughts

Ideally, you’ll reapply sunblock at least every two hours and stay properly hydrated while getting your vitamin D on. In the event you’ve failed to do so, these amazing Dermaesthetics products can help soothe and hydrate your skin back to life, and even prep your skin for the upcoming summer months. A hydrating facial also can provide relief to that sunburned face, so don’t forget to contact your DBH Aesthetician to aid in your recovery. Remember, great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by appointment!
